I loved this adorable storybook. It reminds me of going fishing with my grandfather as a child. Those trips were magical to me then. The mention of the lantern is all too familiar and the sound of crickets bring back memories. I can visualize a father and child sitting on the front porch reading this wonderful story together. I enjoyed this cute rhyming book about a father/son fishing trip.
This is a rhyming story for young children. The illustrations are beautiful and the writing is nicely formatted. Children will enjoy reading this book with parent or teachers, or even by themselves. It is a nice little story with some funny parts to enjoy. Sometimes I did find the rhyme a little awkward to say.
My grandson and I are loving Jogger. In this book Jogger learns to fish in an interesting way. When we had finished reading he announced "Jogger is the best." He asked me to leave the book on his bedside table in case he wanted to check on Jogger during the night. A child's review - heartfelt and honest.
What a wonderful book for children ages 3-9, or older! Because of this book, my grandchildren will be introduced to farm life through the eyes of JOGGER, a loving piglet who has the same inquisitive nature that small children have... I can't wait to read this book to my grand children. The author, Mary Chalupsky, has a very unique talent that allows her to create a loving farm animal, such as Jogger, and all the challenges he goes through in life...And, going fishing with his friends is such a wonderful experience that our children and grandchildren should have. Kudos go to the "illustrator" for the tremendous illustrations that further help the children get the picture. What a wonderful gift Mary has made for our young children--either rural or urban! Keep up this wonderful series..Our children need the " Good News"
in today's troublesome world!

This was such a cute book. It really captured the experience of going fishing for the first time. I enjoyed the rhymes and my students loved making sounds such as "ploppity plop."
